RESOURCES

NIMDEE ( nim - dee- aye)

This is a labor of love that I created to share resources with a community organization. Click the link to find dozens of college prep and career exploration websites at your fingertips: https://nimdee.wordpress.com/

(Please ignore the ads- it was a free website project.)

PARENT FINANCIAL RESOURCES

The FAFSA 4-Caster is a great tool to project your family's Expected Financial Contribution (EFC) for college. It may come as a surprise to you that your EFC may be higher than the cost of tuition! I am here to help you make a plan after you get your numbers. FAFSA 4-Caster

Finaid.org has some great calculators to help estimate EFC and projections of college costs: Finaid EFC  and Finaid Projector.

Here is some historical data on tuition increases over the last 20 years: Tuition

Great parent resources for financial and academic preparation: Student Aid

INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWING

Although typically used by adults as a way to learn more about an industry, an organization, or an opportunity, informational interviewing can be a great tool for students to gain insights about potential career paths. The career development staff at University of California -Berkeley have created a great website to guide you through the process: Informational Interviews

READING, WRITING, CODING

Your local public library has lots of free digital resources, including access to electronic research databases and online classes for nearly any subject you can imagine, including test preparation and foreign languages. Please get your student his/her own card and check out these booklists for teens (READ). Writing well takes practice, and this site has a few good grammar exercises (WRITE). Coding is a very valuable skill to learn that can harness creativity and lead to great opportunities- here are some kid-friendly apps/websites: (CODE).
